The beach out of season

In October, there's nowhere better to be. And it's practically empty.

August is the worst time to go to the beach, and everyone goes in August. It's noisy, you have to get there early to find a spot, and the water is crowded.

October is a different matter. The water is still warm, because the sea takes its time cooling down, the light falls lower and more golden, and you can put your towel wherever you like. May works much the same way, with colder water and longer afternoons.

The same goes for time of day. A Tuesday at seven in the evening in July has fewer people than a Sunday at noon, and it's infinitely better.

The only thing that changes is what you put on when you get out of the water. A proper big towel, and something with sleeves. With that, the season lasts a lot longer than the calendar says.
