Why we sew in short runs

We could make a thousand units of each style. We've chosen not to, and the reason isn't just sentimental.

Every Oreaster piece is put together by hand. Macramé is tied knot by knot, and the pattern is fitted piece by piece. That puts a natural ceiling on how many we can make, and we've chosen not to push past it.

The practical consequence, and we'll say it upfront: sometimes something sells out and doesn't come back. It isn't a scarcity tactic; it's that a yarn colour runs out, and the next batch never comes out exactly the same.

In return, you get two things. The first is that what you're wearing isn't on half the beach. The second, less glamorous but more important, is that we can check every piece before it leaves the workshop.

We know this isn't for everyone. If you want instant restocks and thirty sizes of everything, there are brands that do it better than we do. We do something different. What's made is in the shop.
